More ECW Cavalry

As the title says here are more ECW Cavalry made from the same conversions as the previous unit. Yellow coats on these! an under used colour I say.

  1. Great stuff Toby - I checked out the others in Photobucket too. I agree - yellow is very under-utilised but perhaps because its harder with its subtle tones to get a good result. Too little tone and its insipid, too much and its, well - mud! They're really good - how much conversion was involved?

Reason I ask is I need to get a regiment to finish my ECW army and I was considering Perry's dragoons (to match my dismounted ones) but have never seen a picture of them so am considering alternatives too.

    Cheers,
    Doc

  2. What Doc said! Great looking figures. Just one question, how did you achieve that shading on the yellows?

  3. Thanks for the comments! The Yellow is Vallejo Golden Brown undercoat with vallejo Flat yellow as the first highlight and vallejo Light yellow as the second highlight. You might want to add a smidge of white to the light yellow to make it stand out slightly more.

As for conversion work The saddle cloth was made by rolling thin green stuff and cutting into rectangles to slope over the horse then a ball of greenstuff was shaped into the actual leather saddle to give height to the figure. The holsters were just stuck on the sides of the horse cutting the guns out of the ones that had been drawn. And the blankets and bags were added last. We had to file down a grove in the blanket so it fitted over the strap on the back of the horse.

However I think you would be fairly safe using Perry dragoons. I haven't seen them myself but their horses are lovely.
